SUCCESSFUL ANALYSIS OF THE "BLACK BOX" INSIDE A CASTING MOLD
Squeeze casting is the process in which the molten aluminum poured into a casting cavity with a steady laminar flow to prevent any flow turbulence, then solidified under high pressure. To the contrary, in a conventional die casting method, the molten metal is charged into the mold quickly, causing air-entrapments which reduce the casting mechanical properties.
In order to overcome these conventional die casting shortcomings, Hiroshima Aluminum Industry Co.,Ltd. has been trying to systematically analyze the contents of the "black box" - the flow of the molten metal and the conditions of solidification inside a mold – for more than ten years. The squeeze casting process developed by Hiroshima Aluminum Industry Co.,Ltd. can be used with a conventional die-casting machine, while squeeze casting machines are commonly commercially available. Our objective was to obtain certain results which can resolve what is happening inside the "black box"
As a result, we have succeeded to produce a material of extremely high elasticity with 1.2 times the tensile strength and an elongation ratio of 2 for mass production.
